CSSM was started by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1947, and in 2022, the 75th anniversary year, we continued his enthusiastic encouragement of amateur music making, facilitated by professionals of the highest calibre. At present there are no plans to run the full scale annual course, but opportunities for smaller courses are reviewed regularly and the Chamber Choir has established a new format of a weekend course in early autumn – click on the news below to find out more.

Latest news.

The CSSM main course is a uniquely flexible musical week where every day you can play or sing in at least three timetabled, tutor-led classes from a wide range of solo and ensemble options, join in with other students in chamber music, and perhaps borrow an accompanist from the Masterclass to explore the solo repertoire. Whichever courses you select you can also sing in Evensong, and perform in the full school choir and orchestral piece at the end of the week – in 2022 it was Mozart’s Requiem – with more relaxing moments available along the way to hear the concerts given by our professional tutors and course students. Most of all, we have been renowned for our friendly, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
